2024 Big Sky, Big Leadership Powder River County Graduates 15 Participants

By Jackie Beardsley

The 2024 Big Sky, Big Leadership project graduated 15 participants on January 13th. These participants attended 30 hours of leadership over the course of five months. They explored topics around understanding themselves and understanding the people they work with to improve their own leadership skills while also learning more about their community.

Through leadership development learning and practice, these participants bridged the gap between poor leadership and successful leadership. They built their self-awareness and communication skills through learning about real colors, physiological responses to stress and emotional intelligence.

Participants developed techniques for conflict resolution, team building and problem solving through learning about Tuckman's stages of group formation, Gracious Space and Generations. Northfork Precision and The Coffee Shop graciously hosted tours for our participants.

Our county and city offices also shared the many roles they hold in our community. Community leaders are made through partnerships and support within our community - thank you to those businesses and entities for your willingness to support this endeavor.

MSU Extension Powder River County worked closely with prior participants and planners and would like to thank those advisory members, Missy Billing, Julie Riley, Mary Rumph, Cynde Jo Gatlin, Kate Copelan and John Olson. Thank you to our caterers Krista Gotfredson and Tracy Vail.

Participants shared advice for the next round of attendees, these included "Keep an open mind and plan to attend every session; Attend! You will learn something or lots about yourself and others." We are looking forward to our next round and are excited to be planning for our class of 2025.

Be on the lookout for these community leaders as they put their new skills to practice in our community.
