Powder River Area Economic Development Council and the Pilot Tourism Grant Steering Committee had a presentation by guest speaker Jeff Siegler on December 20th. Jeff is a civic pride consultant out of Pittsburgh, PA. Jeff had been in Broadus since Wednesday, December 18th speaking to community members participating in civic leadership. He took time and connected with our city government and town council, the heads of county departments, teachers and administration as well as a variety of non-profit leaders across our community. These non-profit leaders included representation from the Big Sky, Big Leadership participants, School Community Development Council, SEMDC, Faith Bible Church and the VFW.
A quick google search will bring you to his website with the quote “Fight apathy. Give a damn.” In his presentation on Friday the 20th, his number one suggestion for our community was to take action and utilize our volunteer power to do meaningful work, moving towards a project that brings pride. The twenty or so attendees then brainstormed ideas that would do just that, with the idea of 25 projects for 2025, making our community beautiful for the upcoming year 2026, the 150th anniversary of the Reynolds Battlefield, and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Some closing perspective, Jeff shared: “Great places to live are also great places to visit. This is not always true of the places we visit.” This is a call to action for our community members, “What can I do right now to contribute to our community?”
Did you miss out on connecting with this consultant? Don’t worry, PRAEDC and the Pilot Steering Committee members have much to do and are looking forward to working together in our community. We know our community is fantastic; it is one of the many reasons we enjoy being here and are sometimes wary of others' commentary on it. Let’s take steps today to improve our own living experience.
Stop by and see us at the upcoming home basketball games Friday, January 10th.
