Basketball Teams Play In Bridger

Lady Hawks Are Now 3-1

Boys

The Broadus boys played the Bridger Scouts to a tie in the first quarter, last Friday. They would also tie in the fourth quarter...the two quarters in between were the difference maker, as Bridger made as many free throws as Broadus shot the entire game.

Those extra free throw points were what tipped the scale for Bridger, as the Scouts beat the Hawks 47-42, with Gage Goltz of Bridger hitting 10 of 14 free throws from the line.

For Broadus, Zach Jones led in scoring with 12, while Baylor Kuhbacher scored 10.

On Saturday, Broadus fell 46-60 to Absarokee. Broadus Head Coach Frank Benson noted that a number of little mistakes added up for the Hawks, and overall the team's limited experience seemed to be a big driver in the loss. With that being said, overall the weekend seemed to be an improvement over the first weekend of the season, particularly against Bridger.

This weekend the Hawks will travel to Melstone, to play a Bronc team that is down from years past. A search shows Melstone has lost several games so far this season.

Girls

The Lady Hawks started off strong against Bridger, holding their offense to 2 points in the first quarter, as Broadus took a 13-2 lead after one. In the second quarter, Bridger came back to take the lead, with Broadus finally coming back to secure a healthy lead in the 4th quarter, sealing their second win of the season with a 51-42 score.

"We let them back in, but the girls never gave up and sealed the win," Coach Jamie Harper commented on the game.

Kendal Stanley led the Lady Hawks in scoring against Bridger, with 16 points, while Gracey Bradley knocked down a trio of three pointers, going 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.

On Saturday against Absarokee, Broadus held a sizeable lead throughout the game, as Absarokee turned the ball over 31 times on the night. Harper commented that the press defense employed by the Lady Hawks helped to ensure a win.

Maddie Zimmer led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points, while Gracey Bradley scored 10, adding 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals as Broadus went on to win 36-17.

This Saturday, Broadus plays Melstone, a team which is currently 4-0.

Both Broadus teams will practice over the winter break, after Christmas.
