SENIOR HAPPENINGS

By Tammy Jackman

Happy December to all! I just can’t believe it is December already, edging ever closer to Christmas and to make it worse it’s almost the end of the year, 2024 flew by. December will be a relatively quiet month for us as several of our seniors are gone either for the winter or spending the month with family. With that being said if anyone would like to come in the afternoon to play cards or fill in for Bunco that would be great.

It is Christmas Stroll time again, unfortunately the Senior Center will not be participating with anything this year. We will hopefully be back at it again next year. The Senior Citizens do still have tickets available for the crocheted lap blanket/table covering. They are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5, please swing by the center while you are out strolling and get some. The drawing will be held on Valentine’s Day.

The last day for exercises in 2024, will be on the 11th and they will pick up again on January 6, 2025. Yoga will end on the 10th and resume on the 7th of January. Come join us, Jackie does an awesome job combining exercise with much visiting and laughing,

Ladies Lunch out will be on the 12th at the Cashway Café, please come and join us for a good meal and great company. Bunco will be on the 19th at 1 p.m. if anyone wants to join us or become a substitute, please let Tammy know. Stitching and Lunch is also another fun time for us; we drink coffee, chat and see what handwork everyone is working on.

I would like to thank Amber McDowell/Powder River Petals and every single person who bought roses and donated canned goods to the food pantry during Caring Rose Week. This event is huge for the food pantry, it fills our shelves to overflowing because of the giving nature of our wonderful community. Amber does all the footwork and we just reap the rewards and to her I am grateful. I believe she told me she sold 120 dozen roses!

On top of the items donated through Powder River Petals, we had Louise Talcott donate 2 Thanksgiving meals, Mizpah Masters 4-H Club donated 2 turkeys and all the fixings and the Lutheran and Congregational Churches joined efforts and brought in boxes of food. Bonnie Powell donated boxes of meat, Kelda Page donated a case of potatoes and Dave Hoppe brought in some food pantry items. We are grateful for all these donations they are what keep this food bank up and running. Thank you!

Just in case you are needing to see Tammy, she will be out of the office the 10-12, so plan to see her before or after that. Also, Christmas is on a Wednesday, so the center will be closed that day but we will be back on the 26th. New Year’s Day is the next Wednesday and we will be closed that day as well and back on the 2nd.

We are doing the white Christmas tree, accepting donations of white items to the food bank, for example: lsugar, flour, sock, paper towels, and toilet paper.
