Broadus Fall Festival Entertains

The Broadus Fall Festival, now in its 4th year, entertained folks on a pleasant fall Saturday in Broadus.

A number of events around town took place, such as the chili contest, held at the Senior Center. 8 entries were judged, with 1st place going to Rough Creek Outfitters, with their recipe rated a 3 out of 3 on the spicy scale. 2nd place went to the Lee Randall family, and third to Brandon Schuetzle.

Throughout the afternoon, kids were entertained with a donut eating contest, held by the Chamber of Commerce, on the lawn of the courthouse. Entrants had to eat donuts suspended from strings above head level, with the first kid consuming a donut in each round winning their round, and a reward presented to a parent or guardian. Several kids were noted to have entered multiple times, consuming a large number of donuts throughout the afternoon.

Meanwhile kids were able to draw pictures and make crafts along with staff from Eastern Montana Community Mental Health Center, while a cornhole tournament entertained adults nearby.

A goat petting zoo was set up at the fire hall, with a goat flop contest also held in a perfectly sectioned pen in front of the hall. Individuals could purchase a grid square in the pen, with the winner of a $200 gas card, and money raised going to the fire department. The winning grid square was accomplished by a goat defecating in their square – a feat which took a little longer than initially planned; onlookers at the event speculated that the goat had a bit of stage fright from the noise and assembled crowd. Trenton Schaffer was the winner of the gas card.

A variety of vendors were set up on the courthouse lawn, selling baked goods and vegetables, while a rummage sale also was held.

The Art & Soul Club held an art show and sale in the courthouse lobby. Scott Carter was the proud winner of the club's collaborative painting raffle; the piece was titled "Remuda" and featured portions of the painting completed by members of the club.

St V's had a 50% off sale, and Silver Sage a "Pick a Pumpkin" sale, while the Big Sky Bar had a pumpkin carving contest, with numerous youngsters whittling away at the orange squash. Kinzie Randall placed first and Daxon Wahl second.

The library's coloring contest was won by the following students and grades: Mesa Gaskill, Kindergarten; Brielle Gnerer, 1st; Brent Andrews 2nd; Gunnar Pluhar, 3rd;

Mesa Graff, 4th, as well as Annabel Jesttes and Tyson Schiffer, 5th (there were no entries from 6th grade so two were presented to 5th graders).

The Biddle Hall then had a dinner and dance following the events in Broadus.
