Broadus Cross Country ran in the Baker Invitational on Saturday. The weather was cool and windy, with soft course conditions that led to slow times from the entire field; a fact which Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons emphasized to her team.
"I told them to not worry about the time on their watch, instead to concentrate on competing against the other runner," Emmons commented as we spoke to her Monday.
In the women's varsity, Reece Emmons placed 10th with a 26:09, for her best time and placing of the season. Addison Draine ran a 31:07, to place 30th. 44 runners from across Eastern MT, as well as Beach, ND, ran in the race.
Christian Oylear ran a 20:55 to take 15th in the boy's varsity, while Sean Oylear ran a 21:58 to take 23rd.
Braydn Stoddard-Terrill, running in his first race in Hawk XC, ran a 25:58 in the boy's jv to take 9th. Emmons told us that Stoddard-Terrill had never previously run long distance prior to his joining the team, so to show up and perform so well in his first meet was a testament to his willpower and athletic ability.
Broadus will next race at home, this Friday, at Rolling Hills Golf Course. The girls varsity and jv is scheduled to begin at 10 AM, with the boys varsity and jv at 10:40, and junior high races to follow.
