Lady Hawks Blast Past Ekalaka, Win Close Match Against Forsyth

The Lady Hawk volleyball team rolled into Ekalaka last week, taking down the Lady Bulldogs via aggressive serving in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-11, and 25-22.

Maddie Zimmer led the Lady Hawks in kills with 9, while also adding 16 digs. Macyn McDowell had 18 digs and five aces on serves to lead the team in those categories. Gracie Gali led in sets with 18.

On Saturday at home against Forsyth, Broadus played a wild game that featured a large amount of back and forth, long sets.

Broadus Head Coach Monica Smith commented on the raucous atmosphere, when we spoke to her Monday, "It was difficult to hear the whistle," during parts of the match, as Broadus fans as well as their Forsyth counterparts made for a loud evening.

"The team fed off the energy," Smith continued.

Broadus led off with a fairly easy 25-17 win in the first set, but struggled in the second set early. They went on a bit of a run towards the end of that set, helped out by some excellent serving from Gracey Bradley. Broadus lost the second set 21-25, then went back to the other side of the court to win 25-12 as Broadus found holes in Forsyth's defense. In the fourth set, Forsyth seemed to find their stride, winning 25-22 and forcing a fifth and final set to 15. Back on their "favored" side of the net, Broadus found themselves down by 8 points, in a seemingly insurmountable hole. With Macyn McDowell's cool serves under pressure, the Lady Hawks came back to make the score 14-12, and put the match away for the win, as the team and crowd erupted in cheers for the Lady Hawk win.

Broadus currently sits 2nd in the 2C at 4-1 in conference play. Circle is 3-0 overall, and Forsyth 3-1.

Emelyn Harper had a great night with 12 kills, Kiara Kelly had 14 digs, and Gracey Bradley had 6 aces, in a match which featured a team effort all around.

"Our defense set the stage for our offense, especially in that third set," Smith commented on the win.

This week Broadus plays Custer/Hysham in Miles City on Tuesday, in a special opportunity for the Broadus team as after the match they will have a chance to watch the MCC Lady Pioneers play a college match, featuring Broadus alumni Mia Mader and Zeason Schaffer.

On Friday Broadus will test Circle's unbeaten streak by playing in Circle, and Saturday Broadus will host Plevna.
