Broadus XC Runs At Belle Fourche

Broadus XC runners competed at the Belle Fourche Invitational last Thursday in South Dakota.

Reece Emmons and Addison Draine raced in the Girls JV. Reece placed 5th with a 24:32, and Addison 17th with a 29:18. 24 runners competed in that race.

In the Boys JV, Christian Oylear placed 9th with a 20:11, and Jayce Schroeder, new to the team, placed 38th with a 25:07. 46 runners competed in total. Sean Oylear also started the race, but bowed out due to an aggravated injury.

Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons told us that Belle Fourche was a great race, featuring a course similar to Rolling Hills Golf Course in Broadus, with long, sloping hills, though not as much elevation gain as in Broadus.

Addison ran the hills very well, making up time on other competitors during those stretches, which was a goal prior to the race. Reece reportedly ran with another racer just behind her for much of the race, then beat that opponent in a sprint at the end. Christian has been pushing his pace and is looking for a sub-20 minute 5K. Jayce, running in his first ever 5K, showed that mental toughness is a valuable asset, as he had previously trained very little at longer distances, but his athleticism and mentality kept him going strong, according to Emmons.

Broadus will race this week in Baker, at a course where Broadus runners had many personal records last season.
