On a very hot day, even by Southeastern Montana standards, six 4-H members brought their best for a day of the 4-H horse show. Superintendents, participants and the judge got the day wrapped up by 1:00 PM, beginning the show two hours earlier than originally scheduled. These kids and horses earned every award received on a day that felt like a convection oven.
Horse Show superintendents Megan Smith and Liz Barbour kept the show going with the help of Alexis Gotfredson and Darren VerWolf, Teen 4-H Superintendents.
Senior horse showmanship competitors included Liv Landa and Laney Williams. Champion honors went to Liv Landa, receiving an award sponsored by Rob & Audrey Jones and Denbury Onshore. Reserve Champion was Laney Williams, receiving awards sponsored by JACAM Catalyst.
Junior horse showman included Corby Adam, Kaley Rumph and Sadie Joe Rumph. Champion Junior showman was Corby Adam, winning an award sponsored by the Shannons, Mary & Owen Rumph, and Denbury Onshore. Reserve Champion showman was Kaley Rumph, receiving an award sponsored by JACAM Catalyst. The Mobley Family sponsored the award for Sadie Joe Rumph, receiving the Best Beginner Showman award.
Colt to Maturity Conformation competitors included Liv Landa with two entries - 3-and 4-year-old colts and Laney Williams with her 4-year-old colt. All competed Under Saddle as well, with Liv Landa winning Grand Champion in both. She received awards sponsored by Davis Quarter Horses and Marian Hanson in memory of Darrel. Laney Williams won Reserve Grand Champion in both. Liv Landa also competed in Green Horse, receiving an award sponsored by AgWest Farm Credit.
Western Horsemanship competitors in Level 1 included Kaley and Sadie Jo Rumph, in Level 3 Corby Adam and in Level 7 Liv Landa. Corby Adam won Grand Champion Western Horsemanship sponsored by David and Katy McMichael, with Liv Landa receiving Reserve Grand Champion.
Working Ranch Horse competitors included Level 3 competitor Liv Landa and Level 4 competitor Laney Williams. Laney Williams received Grand Champion Working Ranch Horse, with Alivia Landa receiving Reserve Grand Champion. Ray and Tedi Jo Williams sponsored the award for the Ranch Horse class.
Reining competitors included Laney Williams, Liv Landa, and Corby Adam. Corby Adam received Grand Champion Reining, sponsored by Circle Bar Ranch, Stevens and Herman families, with Laney Williams receiving Reserve Grand Champion.
Trail competitors included Laney Williams, Liv Landa, Corby Adam, Kaley Rumph, and Sadie Joe Rumph. Corby Adam received Grand Champion, an award sponsored by Julie Stoddard and Laney Williams received Reserve Grand Champion.
Our Small Equine competitor Ava Landa and her horse Chester won overall in small equine. They competed in Trails, Driving and Showmanship. Awards are sponsored by AgWest Farm Credit and Powder River County Fair.
Western Pleasure Competitors included Laney Williams, Liv Landa, Corby Adam, Kaley Rumph, and Sadie Joe Rumph. The Western Pleasure Grand Champion was Corby Adam with Liv Landa receiving Reserve Grand Champion. McGill Land and Livestock sponsored the award.
Bareback Equitation competitors included Laney Williams, Liv Landa, and Corby Adam. Liv Landa received the Grand Champion award sponsored by Circle Bar Ranch, Stevens & Herman Families, with Corby Adam receiving Reserve Grand Champion.
