Blazes Keep Firefighters Occupied

Broadus VFD responded to several area fires over the weekend, with Federal and State agencies also kept busy by the fires.

A five acre fire on Bay Horse Creek, 24 miles south of Broadus, brought smoke jumpers on scene as they parachuted into fight the blaze.

A 1.2 acre fire 20 miles northwest of Broadus was extinguished by the VFD and locals.

A 2 acre fire along Highway 212 near Epsie occurred on July 21st.

The spate of fires across the southern reaches of Rosebud, Bighorn, and Powder River Counties which began on 7/12 and 13 were close to or under control by Tuesday, July 23. The Deadman and McGhee fires, south of Birney, sat at 95% and 73% containment, while other area large fires such as the Prairie and Four Mile Fire were 100% contained.

Those four fires had burned 47,827 acres in the Birney area. The 1,270 acre Line Creek Fire south of Moorhead was contained and controlled.
