Freedom Run Results

By Jackie Beardsley

A chilly July morning kept the 4th of July Freedom Run racers moving to stay warm as they competed last Thursday. Overall, 74 people walked or biked the 1-mile, 3-mile or 5 -mile races.

Biking was a new option for participants up for some physical activity to celebrate the 4th of July. Pete Wenzel and Kambry Yonkee topped the 5-mile bike race, with Jenifer Bird and Tyler Caldwell topping the foot race. Scarlett Talcott was the number one biker and Luke Brewer and Brooklyn Worman were the number one foot racers in the 3-mile. In the 1-mile race, Ester Stiegelmeier and Ridger Bilbrey took first on foot.

Thank you to Joan Jilka, who ran her 32nd year of the 4th of July Freedom Run, for marking the routes for each race. Additional volunteers making the run possible include Jerry Coulter, timer; Molly Lloyd and Vanna Byrd, registration. Providing direction and encouragement along the route, Tammy Van Tine, Katie Ward, Karen Amende, Alyson Ragsdale, Genna Gaines, Kara Wyers, Julie Riley, Kelda Page and Jackie Beardsley. The Broadus Volunteer Fire Department Clint Pedersen, Raymond Ragsdale, Tele Harmon and DJ Wilson made it safe for the participants to cross the highway. Thank you to the Big Sky Bar for the donation of water for the racers.
