United We Stand – "A Community United" Downtown Photo

By PR Extension Office

The trivia question for the upcoming 4th of July is: “How many people would it take to “circle” the courthouse square?” To help answer that question, immediately following the 4th of July parade, all who are present are asked to link hands, standing side by side around the courthouse square for a community photo from a bird’s eye view.

“A Community United” photo is being organized by Linda Bird, member of Powder River Area Economic Development Council (PRAEDC) and taken via drone, the bird’s eye view, to be flown by Clint Pedersen and Myles Gardner.

“I want to capture the beauty and essence of our community,” said Bird. "In keeping with our 4th of July theme of United We Stand, I envisioned us as a community, taking a moment to really honor this wonderful country and community that we live in. My vision is all of us raising our joined hands & eyes heavenward, as the drone circles the outer edge of the square to memorialize the moment of a community coming together in celebration,” added Bird.

Enhancing community vitality has been the focus of the PRAEDC, recipients of a Heart & Soul starter grant.

Heart & Soul is designed to give a voice to all who live in a community to share what they like and what they would change about the place in which they live.

“How do you find out what is important to people in our community?” asked President of the PRAEDC Melissa Billing. “By asking and listening to responses,” she explained. Through the Heart & Soul process, all will be included in researching what is important to the people in the town of Broadus and throughout the county.

“The Community Photo around the Courthouse square is a great way to kick-off Heart & Soul,” explained Julie Riley, member of PRAEDC. “It will be a fun activity and the photo will be a wonderful representation of our community unified,” she added.

The photo op will take place as soon as the last parade entry circles the courthouse square.

Community volunteers will be on hand to organize the mass crowd lining the street to all be in the right spot at the right time.

And hopefully, the photo will answer the trivia question!
