Senior Happenings

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

Summer is in full swing here at the Senior Center, flowers are planted out front and trips are in the works. The days, months and weeks just fly by, I can’t believe it is almost the 4th of July!

Speaking of the 4th, the doors will be open for a couple of fundraisers. First, Bumblebee Daycare will be hosting their pancake breakfast here this year, beginning at 8:00 AM.

Secondly, the Annual Dessert Auction to benefit the area cancer fund will once again be held here at the center. They are asking that any desserts be at the center before the parade starts.

We had to cancel our Little Bighorn Battlefield trip as it decided to be closed on the day we were to go over. I will try to plan it for later in the summer.

Kristina Ryan was at the center on the 13th of June to show us how she makes her goat milk soap. It was a very interesting process and she explained it so well. I am thinking of having her back maybe this winter or next spring just because it was so well attended and I think there were some who wanted to come and couldn’t.

July will have a couple of fun trips starting with Shakespeare in the Park at Poker Jim Lookout which is up the Otter Creek Road for those who don’t know. We take about 3 vehicles packed full of people, take a pitch-in supper and head on up. The play starts at 6:30 p.m. and is always enjoyable.

If you would like to go, please let Tammy know so we have enough vehicles to get everyone there.

The other trip which is always fun is our Deadwood trip and that will be on July 23rd. We usually get down there for an early lunch and then everyone goes their own way until our driver says to get on back to the van.

We will have Stitching and Lunch on the 2nd, 16th and 30th at 10 a.m. This really is a fun time of handwork and visiting and we would like to have more ladies join us. Ladies Lunch Out will be on the 18th at the Cashway Café at noon and Bunco will be on 25th at 1 p.m. Bunco is a very fun time with lots of good snacks to top it all off. We are almost always playing hand and foot so if you are needing something to do in the afternoons, come down and join us.

July congregate meal menu:

July 3 - vegetable beef soup, hamburgers, french fries, ice cream sundae

July 10 - potato soup, steak strips, potato wedges, apple crisp

July 17 - tortilla soup, taco grande, flan

July 24 - chicken noodle soup, fried chicken, corn, mashed potatoes, pudding

July 31 - Italian wedding soup, lasagna, garlic bread, lemon bars

I would like to thank those who donated to the food bank in June: Donna Giacometto, Kate and Delaney Ruland for eggs, Lisa Hart for food pantry items and Tami Bales for the hamburger and roasts. Your donations are greatly appreciated and the food pantry would not be as stocked without your help.

That is all I have for you this month. I hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July.
