Anne McKinney

Josephine "Anne" Carrel McKinney, 83, of Broadus, MT, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, after a long fight with Parkinson's disease.

Born on February 24, 1941, in Miles City, MT, Anne was the daughter of the late Jack and Josephine Brown Carrel. She attended grade school in Birney, MT, graduated from high school in Sheridan, WY, in 1959, and was crowned the Sheridan-Wyo Rodeo Queen that summer. She went on to earn a business degree in college and married Bill McKinney in 1963. Together, they pursued their dream of training and producing Quarter Horses and raising their children on the Brown family 4D ranch in Birney, MT.

Throughout her life, she cherished her family, horses, cattle, and ranch. She was an exceptional horsewoman and a nurturing figure to many. She took great joy in sharing her knowledge with younger generations, especially her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Grady Matthew Bonham. Her surviving family includes her husband, William "Bill" F. McKinney; siblings, John Carrel (Laurie), Bill Carrel (Alicia), Sarah Clifford (Tom), and Charlie Carrel (Hilary); daughter, Jennifer Bonham (Peavy); son, Matthew McKinney (Shari); and 5 grandchildren: Nate McKinney (Anna), Colton McKinney (Kayla), Tori Hawkins (Buddy), Caitlyn Bultje (Derek), and Hayli Ward (Andrew), along with 15 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Anne's life will be held in Sheridan, WY at the Ramada Plaza, Friday, July 12, 2024 from 1:30-5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers feel free to bring a fond memory of Anne to share for her memory box. Online condolences may be made to stevensonfuneralhomes.com/obituaries.
