Powder River Manor Celebrates National Skilled Nursing Care Week

Powder River Manor celebrates National Skilled Nursing Care Week from May 12th through the 18th. The event, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, involves a number of events featuring the staff and residents.

This year’s theme is “Radiant Memories” with a different decade celebrated each day.

According to Manor Activities Director Brittani Aurand, the events kicked off with a Mother’s Day Dinner on Sunday, followed by the theme week activities. Monday was ‘30s Day, with residents and staff learning the history of radio, then watching the Bonnie & Clyde movie in the afternoon, in the fireside room with popcorn and drinks. The Rising Stars 4-H Club plans to plant flowers at the Manor.

Brittani comments: “Tuesday is the 1940's. In the morning, we're doing a radio history quiz to refresh ourselves, then learn a little about each other with the reminisce ball! then in the afternoon we are going to do an escape room activity! The High School Choir plans to sing at the Manor on Tuesday.

Wednesday is the 1950's. In the morning the 4th graders are coming to read their favorite books to the residents, then in the afternoon we are hosting a sock hop social followed by the movie Grease.

Thursday is the 1960's. The JH Choir plans to sing at the Manor at 9 AM.

We are going to listen to old time radio to have a blast from the past then at 11:30 is the BBQ out front and Tom Minow will be providing music. Laura Kate Arithson will be dropping by with some cuddly animals on Thursday. In the afternoon John Olson is coming over to play cards and we will start our tie dying.

Friday is the 1970's. In the morning we will be listening to old time radio and working on tie dying then in the afternoon we are going to wrap up the week with some rock and roll bingo!”
