Broadus VFD Is Now Better Equipped With Help Of Grant Money

By Clint Pedersen

The Broadus Volunteer Fire Department recently acquired a 6x6 oshkosh dumptruck, a 40 ton beaver tail trailer and a 100hp case 6way dozer. The truck will be used to transport the dozer to fires via the trailer. The setup is pictured at left.

This ensemble is the culmination of several year's worth of equipment searches by the Montana DNRC to acquire Government surplus equipment at no cost to the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department, through a collaborative agreement. These pieces came from Colorado, Washington and Iowa, and averaged close to $3000 each to be hauled to Broadus. Stockman's Bank helped to fund the transportation cost. The aquistion of this equipment will greatly increase the capacity of our FD to contain wildfires on initial attack on private and state lands, and federal lands in certain instances with prior permission, before the fires have a chance to get large. We are very grateful to Montana DNRC and Stockman's Bank for making these acquisitions possible.
