Arbor Day To Be Celebrated May 7

By Margaret Scoles

Arbor Day is officially designated as the last Friday in April.

Broadus has been a Tree City USA since 1999. This designation makes Broadus eligible for grants to support tree planting and other tree projects.

Mayor Chad Gatlin signed the 2024 Arbor Day Proclamation for April 26. However, that date is being delayed due to school schedules and climatic considerations. Plans are underway in Broadus to celebrate on May 7 at a time that works better for the Elementary School students. Diana Swenson’s first grade class will again be cosponsoring the celebration with the Broadus Tree Board. The class will join the Tree Board in planting several trees. Funding to purchase the trees and support the celebration comes from a $850 grant received from the DNRC.

Please watch for details as they develop and plan to join in the celebration. Plan to plant a tree! If you are interested in volunteering or joining the Tree Board please contact Josie Morris at the Town of Broadus office.
