Propose Hilltop Drive Since North Fence Out
F.W. Trautman, who owns land on three sides of the town of Broadus, this week was busy moving the fence on the north side of town. The fence is being moved so that the hill and water tank north of town will be in the town. It is the hope of many that a road can be built to the hilltop and water tank as it will be a scenic drive where a good view can be had of the town and Powder River valley.

Kraft Corner Opens
The Kraft Korner, in the rear of the old clinic building, opened last week with a variety of handcrafted items for sale. Velma Pemberton and Barbara Sampson will sell completed craft articles and also provide space for interested persons to work on their favorite hobbies. Craft kits, plus lessons for learning various crafts are also offered at the new business.
The ladies have several rooms in the back of the old clinic in use for the craft center. A show room is adjacent to the orange (back) door entryway where shelves have been installed for display purposes. A craft room is next with kits available and a big table for a work space. Next to the craft work room is the ceramics room. Mrs. Sampson is making her potter's wheel available to those wishing to learn ceramics, at a cost of 50 cents an hour. She will also teach lessons in ceramics if there is enough interest.

Local Gambling Laws await Legal opinion
Local government officials have reviewed several tentative plans pertaining to licensing of gambling places and games in Broadus and Powder River County, Sheriff Grant Gatlin reported Monday. He has met with the County Commissioners and County Attorney Bob Brooks, he said, but they are waiting for an opinion from the Attorney General before deciding who must buy a license and who may or may not gamble without a license.
Brooks and the County Commissioners met with eastern Montana members of the County Commissioners Association in Miles City April 11th, to agree on fees in an attempt to keep licensing and other fees uniform in this area of the State. The proposal agreed upon at this meeting would charge each establishment operating gambling games $500 plus $50.00 per poker and pan table and $25.00 for all other card tables. Dealers or housemen would be investigated under the proposal and would be charged investigation and licensing fees. The proposal may be adopted at any time, according to Brooks, and put into immediate operation.
