This year has been very busy, and several cool things are/have been happening.
March is national youth art month and each year Montana art teachers are asked to send 1-3 pieces of fantastic art to Helena to hang in the halls of our capitol building.
This year I selected two very talented young ladies from my first semester Art 1 class. I sent a pointillism project by Ava Landa of Princess Buttercup (from "The Princess Bride") and a lovely scratchboard titled "Lioness" by Tabitha Escott. These two projects will hang on display for the entire month of March before they head home.
Also in the month of March is a very unique and prestigious National Youth Art Show and Sale held by the Heard Museum in Phoenix Arizona. Students must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe in order to participate.
This year I sent a peyote stitched keychain made by Kassie Hagedorn to compete in the beadwork category. Kassie's piece was purchased by a Heard museum executive board member to add to her collection as she did not have a Northern Cheyenne piece of art yet.
Our display cases are full of great Jr High and High school art and we have the Artsonia page up and running on the school website again.
On Thursday, April 11th, Jr high Art, as well as High school art and enrichment classes will be attending an Art Intensive hosted by Sheridan College in Sherdian, Wyoming.
The college is putting together a wonderful event with full access to all of the new and amazing art spaces (ceramics, sculpture, painting/drawing, and printmaking) students will be able to interact with outstanding college art students and instructors as well as they will get involved with the dance and theater faculty. Interactive activities will abound and students will be able to bring home their own art masterpieces.
This year the activities will include large scale abstract gestural drawings, exquisite corpses, relief printing, screen-printing t-shirts, clay sculpture and leather working.
In May the production assistant students will get to go and be hands on a filming movie set, as they finish getting certified as production assistants. Stay tuned for more information at a later date on that exciting adventure.
