New “20 Grand” Benefits Library

The sale of the old 3-K Club Monday brings the reality of a new County Library closer. The night club, 3 acres of land, and the liquor license were sold to co-owners Virginia Keats and Cap and Kathy Williams for $19,000 with the proceeds going to the County Library Board.

The Night Club and property was donated to the County by Elllsie Malley for a library building in memory of her husband, the late Henry Malley. The library already owns the property on which to build the new building. The property is located on the corner across from the Courthouse. It is hoped that the funds will be sufficient to complete a new building. If not, up to three mills may be levied to provide the extra funds.

The new owners of the night club are planning to begin immediately on a cleaning and renovating project with hopes of opening their new “20 Grand” supper club between April 1st and 15th. Cap Williams will be the manager.

The former 3-K Club was built by the late Joe Kane Jr. around 1969. He operated the club until his death and it was operated by a lessee for about a year and a half after that. At that time it was donated to the county by owner, Mrs. Elsie Malley, for a Library in memory of Henry Malley.
