Lyndell McKenzie

Lyndell McKenzie (nee Harper) passed away after a brief illness on January 31, 2024 at the age of 75. Born in San Francisco, Lynn was the beloved adopted daughter of Reed and Ethel Harper. She is survived by her husband Barry McKenzie of Reno, her stepson Brad McKenzie and his family, including her step-granddaughter Nicole McKenzie of Lincoln, CA She is also survived by her daughter Sarah Ohlson of Santa Barbara, CA, and her three sisters and their families: Jeri Getty of San Marcos, CA; Kelly Gaylord of Las Vegas, NV and Valerie Cymes of Richmond, VA.

Lynn graduated from Reno High School and the University of Nevada Reno where she earned a BA in Sociology. She worked at AAA for over 20 years where she met Barry McKenzie to whom she was married for 41 years. Lynn was an enthusiastic chef and gardener. She loved animals and nature, and she and Barry spent many happy years traveling in their fifth wheel between the beauty spots of Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, and Arizona with their succession of three Cairn Terriers (Suds, Jake, and Cody).

Lynn had a passion for history and genealogy, and it was this interest that, in 2015, connected her to her biological father and half-sister. This great surprise united the sisters and their families and the relationships they formed have been long-lasting and meaningful.

Lynn was a woman of deep faith and this got her through her final weeks with dignity, fearlessness, and love. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Comprehensive Home Health Solutions who gave her impeccable care in her final weeks. We will celebrate Lynn's life on March 8, 2024 at 11:30 AM. The service will be held at the Bridge Church, address: 1330 Foster Dr., Reno, NV.
