SENIOR HAPPENINGS

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

Can you believe this weather we are having as we are about to roll into another new year? I personally am loving it. I need to take a moment before I get into our January article too much to thank some people who have helped out immensely here at the center since my surgery on Halloween. My family was a huge help throughout the weeks of not being able to pick up or move anything heavier than a milk jug. Thanks to Bonnie and Dennis for vacuuming/ mopping the center every week, setting up tables/chairs daily, Sharon Billing for helping me decorate for the holidays, Pat Smith and Karen Gunther for being here when I just couldn’t be and for setting up for activities, Richard, Ryley and Mychaela for moving/picking up things too heavy for me and just any general thing I couldn’t do. If I missed anyone, please forgive me, I had many offers of help and I appreciate them all.

Our Christmas Stroll was full of music, visiting, goodies and gift wrapping. Santa even stopped by for a bit. We were blessed to have the Adopt a Grandparent Tree here again this year and we were able to find most of the “ornaments” homes before the tree went back over to the Manor for the open house. Kaci Troester was the winner of our door prize this year.

We are starting our Air Fryer Cooking Class on January 18th at 11:30-12:30. The classes will be every Thursday for a period of 9 weeks. If you are interested, please contact Tammy at the Senior Center 436-2635 to sign up.

Along with the cooking class we will also have Stitching/Lunch on the 2nd, 16th and 30th. We all just bring handwork to do and visit, then an amazing lunch is served. If that sounds like something you would like to take part in, please come join us. Ladies Lunch Out will be at the Cashway Café on the 18th at noon. We will have cards every afternoon and Bunco will be on the 29th at 1 p.m. SAIL exercises will resume on the 8th at 10 a.m. and then will be on Thursdays at 10 a.m. instead of Wednesdays thru the cooking class schedule.

The FREE TURKEY DINNER will be held on the 17th at the Senior Center at noon. There will be turkey of course, plus brisket, sides and dessert. Everyone is welcome to come and join us.

Congregate meals:

1/10—Chicken Noodle Soup, Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes/Gravy, Cupcakes

1/17—FREE TURKEY DINNER @ Senior Center at Noon

1/24—Potato Soup, Hamburgers, Gems, Apple Cake

1/30—Clam Chowder, Fish/Chips, Brownies

As with every month we have some amazing people to thank for their donations. June Ray, Ann Mackaben, Dottie Hartley and Buddi Anderson for food pantry items, Music Boosters for the birthday calendar, Russ Greenwood for the winter squash, Dina Gay for meat, Connie and Mike Capra for turkeys, beef and mobility items, Biddle 4-H Club for 9 Advent Boxes. All of your donations are so very appreciated by myself and those who use the senior center.

Just a reminder the center will be closed on January 1st for New Year’s Day and on the 15th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Hope everyone has a great 2024!
