A special meeting of the Broadus Town Council was held last Wednesday to discuss the potential for an increase in water and garbage rates, as detailed in last week’s Examiner. A rate analysis determined that the water and garbage systems are in need of a rate increase to pay for themselves (as directed by state law). The special counsel meeting moved to go forward with those rate increases. The precise numbers will be determined at the January 2nd meeting; as of now residents are likely to see somewhere around a 14-16 dollar per month increase on their bill. This amount will also be dependent on factors such as their dumpster use.
The rates will not be made final until after the January 2nd meeting, as well as a public hearing period. Residents are encouraged to attend future meetings, or contact their council members or the town office if they have questions or comments.
