Broadus Schools Evacuated Due To Bomb Threat

The Broadus Elementary and High Schools were evacuated on Thursday, December 14th around lunch time after an emailed bomb threat was received by at least two employees at the school.

Law enforcement was quickly called and both schools were immediately evacuated, according to Broadus Schools Principal Denise Ternes, who we spoke to Monday.

Broadus was one of several Montana schools to receive the threat on Thursday; other schools included Browning, Alberton, Shepherd, Broadview, and Boulder, while a synagogue in Missoula also received a bomb threat. Last Wednesday schools in Wyoming and Idaho received similar threats, and Utah schools on Friday.

Powder River County Law Enforcement personnel, along with help from the Montana Highway Patrol and other local citizens searched the schools, and found no threat. Simultaneously as the schools were being searched, Sheriff Boman was on the phone with surrounding law enforcement agencies, where he learned the threat had been sent to areas around Montana and beyond.

Meanwhile, as the school was searched students were hungry as they had missed lunch. A call to Seabeck Pizza was made, and the kids were treated to Seabeck Pizza for lunch. Following the “all clear”, those students who had not been picked up by their parents returned to school for the remainder of the afternoon.

Further investigation into the threat is being carried out at the Federal level, according to Sheriff Boman.
