Powder River Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is excited to announce the commencement of a new Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class, slated to begin on January 16th, 2024. This initiative, hosted at the EMS Administration office within the courthouse, marks a significant expansion in the educational offerings of the organization.
Scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, the course spans approximately six weeks.
It encompasses an enriching blend of in-person lectures, online resources, and hands-on skill drills. These sessions are meticulously designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in assessments and interventions.
The 48-hour course, led by expert instructors from Powder River EMS and NREMT Paramedics, adheres to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) curriculum. It is a foundational step in the National Standard for EMS providers, paving the way for advanced certifications such as the Emergency Medical Technician and beyond. It is important to note that the EMR course hours are exclusive to this certification and do not count towards other EMS courses. Certification levels are determined and regulated by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) and are not subject to adjustments by instructors.
Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the NREMT EMR test, a crucial step for those seeking Montana state licensure as an EMR. The prerequisite for enrollment in this course is Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support CPR certification, for which Powder River EMS is offering a training session on January 6th and 7th 8 am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm each day.
The cost of the BLS CPR training is set at $50, while the Emergency Medical Responder course is priced at $450. Financial aid is available through the Powder River First Responders charity or through discussions with Director Johnson. For queries related to financial assistance, please contact Director Johnson or the Powder River First Responders.
Prospective students are encouraged to express their interest promptly, allowing the EMS training staff ample time to prepare necessary resources, books, and equipment. To apply, please visit https://prco. mt.gov/ PREMS to complete the student application. This opportunity promises to be a transformative experience for aspiring EMS professionals, offering a solid foundation in emergency medical response and a pathway to advanced healthcare careers. If you are considering a change for 2024 consider a New Year and New You through EMR training.
