Geraldine Fisher

Geraldine Rose Two Two Fisher, Ho'ȯhtȯhena'e Cane Woman, age 85, passed away peacefully, On October 30, 2023. She was born, August 13, 1938 to Stephan Two Two and Thelma Foote Two Two at their home along the Tongue River, in Ashland, Mt. Geraldine was baptized at the St. Labre Catholic Church on September 4, 1938. Her father was a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe. Something she was very proud of, her Sioux lineage.

Geraldine spent most of her life in the Ashland area with her 12 siblings. Her education was received at St. Labre boarding school. She received her honorary degree from Chief Dull Knife College in 2016. Geraldine married Bernadine Fisher and to this union 10 children were born. They moved to Lame Deer for a short time. She eventually made her forever home in Ashland where she raised all her children. Geraldine had two children from a companionship, Milen and Eva Mae Onebear.

Geraldine's 53 years of employment began at the guild's arts and crafts factory and then as a baker/cook for St. Labre school for 26 years. She went on to cook for the Northern Cheyenne Head Start for 15 years. Geraldine saw the need to feed the elders in the Ashland community and began to cook for them out of her home. She continued to cook lunch for the elders at St. Labre for another 12 years before retiring. She was known best for her awesome baking of banana bread, cookies and cinnamon rolls. Any and everyone was welcomed at her table.

Geraldine was dependable and always ready to help in any way she could. She served many years as the Ashland Powwow Committee in various leadership roles, officially retiring from the committee in 2019. The annual Tekakwitha Conference was one of her devout passions in her life. The conference brought her to travel the many cities with her fellow parishioners. She would fundraise all year with her legendary baked goods so she could attend the conference.

Geraldine was blessed with a wealth of family that prospered to become world champion athletes, state champions, Montana all-stars, Ultimate Warrior Champion, tribal leaders, college graduates, and many amazing cooks. Geraldine was a steadfast supporter of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would travel to support them at their basketball, football, rodeo, powwow, volleyball, and softball games. She became a fan of the Lame Deer Morningstar and Colstrip Colts in support of her grandchildren as well. Geraldine was a lifelong St. Labre sports fan. She was a respected elder who was acknowledged by the St. Labre athletes during the announcement of the starting lineups. She was proud of each and every one of them.

Her warm presence and infectious laugh will be missed by many and her absent felt throughout Indian Country. May her faith, kind personality, and strong resiliency serve as an example for us to live by as we carry on in this life. One of Geraldine's passions was bowling and going to Bingo.

Geraldine is the matriarch to five generations of family. She is survived by: her children: Arlin, Allen (Sharon), Virgil (Myra), Vernon (Paula), Donna, Thelma, Shelly, Steven (Martha), and Stewart; Step-son: Roy Fisher, Sr.; Nieces: Yvette Archambault, Dixie Garfield, Yolanda Fraser, Emily Fraser, Sandy, Rachel, Carla, Nita and Kirsty Two Two, Gina Pittman, Kittybelle Riggs, Lynette McCauley; Nephews: Ruben and Chad Littlehead, Pierre and George Archambault, Lenray, Uriah, Tyson and Calvin Two Two Jr., Jay, Perry and Jerry Fraser, Kevin Redbird, Roxy Wilson and Beaver Tallbull, George & Tommy Fisher, Sally Hagedorn, Darrell and Darlene Zimmer, Henry Thompson, Norma Fisher, Carol Gowdy, Kurt Law, Steve Euwing, Numerous Nieces and Nephews that she raised.

She was also blessed with 43 grandchilden, 92+ great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren; Special friends: Susie Cain, Ruby Braine, Connie Brien, Marceline Shoulderblade, Pam Kenia and Tim Dove, Donovan Archambault Sr.

Her first cousin sisters and brothers, Patricia Rowland, Maria Charette, Annie Messer, Alberta Twenty Stands, Denise Alexander, William Rowland, Adrian Foote, Michael Shane Speelman, Theda Foote, Clara Harris, Edie Adams, Eugene Fisher, Theodora Weatherwax, Charlene, Charleston and Bobby Yellowfox, Charlette Runsabove, Amanda Dillard, Marvin Two Two Sr., and Vincent Two Two Sr.

Her loved ones proceeding her in death are: her parents, and siblings, her children: Velma Lee Fisher, Leslie Fisher, Eva Mae One Bear, and Milen One Bear; Step-daughter, Bernadine "Dene" Bahr; Theresa, Steve, George, Grandchildren: Dane Fisher, Allen L. Fisher, Arlin "Shuggs" Bordeaux; Ozzy Wilson, Preston Gray, and Greatgrandchild Clinton Ross Fitzpatrick Jr, Chanelle Ziler, Raymond, Calvin and Delores Two Two, Emil Frazer, Steve Two Two, Sr., George Two Two, and Donna Paul, Son in Law Eugene Beaverheart; Niece, Theresa Two Two; Nephews: Eugene Archambault, Steve Two Two, Dana Fraser, Barry Fraser, and Adam Two Two; Aunts: Eva Foote, Bertha Foote-Harris, Inez Foote, Theresa Two Two and Margret Two Two- Means; Uncles: Eddie Foote.

Extended families include the Two Two, Shoulderblades, Littlewhiteman, Harris, Foote, Speelman, Rowland and the Short Horn, Janis, Means, families of Pine Ridge & Wounded Knee.
