Girls Scouts Learn Survival Skills

By Jessica Rumph

On October 15th, Girl Scout Troop 2284 got together to learn survival skills. The troop was led by Russ Kinzer, who taught the girls how to start fires with steel wool and a 9 volt battery. Kinzer also showed the troop how to track the sun across the sky, read time with a self-made sundial, and how to use the sun for heat. They also learned that boiling water makes it safe to drink, and how to find a warm stop to stay if lost in the wilderness.
