Team Improves To 10-1 In Conference Play
The Lady Hawks volleyball squad won two matches last week on the road, at Forsyth on Thursday and at Jordan on Saturday.
Broadus went 3-0 in sets against Forsyth, though the first two sets belied a close score, going to extra points as Broadus won 26-24 and 28-26. In the third set Broadus won 25-20 to seal the win.
"I was happy with how the team played," Broadus Coach Monica Smith told us during a Monday interview. "They maintained consistent energy throughout the match, which was great to see."
The match at Forsyth fell on their "Pink Night", with fans wearing pink colors in support of those affected by cancer. The volleyball team gave roses out to cancer survivors in the audience, which was a heartfelt touch for those attending.
On Saturday, Broadus faced off against the Lady Longhorns in Garfield County. Jordan has a reputation as being a "scrappy" team, and they showed their tenacity as balls hit by Broadus had a hard time finding the floor – particularly in the third set as Jordan turned the tides on the Lady Hawks. The momentum shift was short lived, as Broadus came back to easily win the fourth set. Final score: Broadus 3, Jordan 1, with scores of 25-16, 25-19, 18-25, and 25-15.
Broadus now hosts Ekalaka and travels to Terry for the final two regular season matches of the season, Thursday and Saturday. Thursday evening will be Senior Night for graduating Lady Hawks.
Next week the Lady Hawks travel to Glendive for the 2C District Tourney. Seeding was not yet assured as of this week. Three teams from the 2C will travel on to the Divisional Tournament in Sidney.
