Club Prepares For New Season
By Ben VerWolf
The Broadus Sharp Shooters 4-H Club was recently awarded a grant generously donated by the Friends of the NRA Foundation. According to their website, the Friends of the NRA is the fundraising arm of The NRA Foundation. The Foundation provides grants to fund activities and support programs in the United States that promote firearms and hunting safety, enhance marksmanship skills, and educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological, and artistic context.
Through this grant, the club received four new air rifles, associated equipment, and shooting supplies.
Broadus Sharp Shooters was also awarded a grant from the Powder River County Endowment fund. This grant was used to purchase a gun safe, two additional air rifles, and miscellaneous supplies. Future plans are to purchase new pellet/arrow backstops for the occasional wayward shot.
Other notable donors to the Sharp Shooters include Broadus Feed and Supply, Montana Farmers Union, and the Powder River County 4-H Council. These funds were used to purchase new archery targets.
The club is also thankful for the wonderful support of the people of our community supporting the “Kiss The Pig” fundraiser during the fair. This includes those that donated monetarily to the fundraiser and also those that volunteered to be candidates to potentially kiss the pig!
Also, the club would like to extend out thanks to Powder River Examiner for placing “Thank Yous” and covering club events. We are excited to get going and start the year. All youth are welcome to join that are age 9 as of October 1. If interested, contact Hattie Arithson, Pat Ruland, Lester Aye, or Ben and Amber VerWolf.
