Broadus XC Runs At Pompey's Pillar

The Broadus Cross Country Team ran on a unique, historic, and picturesque course amongst the cottonwoods lining the Yellowstone River last week. The Huntley Project Meet was held on the trails at Pompey's Pillar National Monument, commemorating the location where William Clark left his signature on a rock outcropping near the river on July 25th, 1806, while on the return trip back to St. Louis during the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Clark named the outcropping after Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, son of expedition member Sacagawea, whom Clark had nicknamed "Pompey".

The race provided competition from teams as large as Billings Central, and the Broadus boys won 4th overall, pushed by Thomas Oylear's first place run. Nine boys teams competed in total.

The girls ran well in the course, led by Alix Heacock at 16th. The girls also took time to visit William Clark's signature on the Pompey's Pillar rock outcropping.

Here are the results from the meet:

Boys: Thomas Oylear, 1st place, 16:52.02. Eli Heacock, 12th place, 18:31.02. Josh Rasmussen, 26th place, 19:44.48. Cooper Zimmer, 31st place, 20:05.81. Christian Oylear, 32nd place, 20:06.04. Jaxon Bilbrey, 45th place, 21:25.64. Powder River Co, 4th place, 93.
