Superintendent's Report

October 9, 2023

My daughter informed me that her husband will be taking training to become a drill sergeant. She also stated basic training does not have the complete “Shark Attack” like what occurred during her basic training experience. What is a “Shark Attack”? I was informed it was the prolonged verbal greeting drill sergeants give new cadets when they first arrive at basic training. Apparently, even the military has changed in an effort to retain recruits.

Our world and societal issues have become much more complex, and preparing students with the intellectual and mental skills to handle these problems will be more important than ever. As educators, coaches, advisors, and parents, I hope we have adequately challenged our kids, and have not merely augmented our expectations to accommodate. Most of our students will not have to go through a “Shark Attack”, but enduring some obstacles along their K-12 educational journey may prove to be their most important lesson.
