Broadus fell to Ekalaka on the football field last Saturday. The Hawks put up 28 points in the loss, while Ekalaka put down 56 points to go to 3-0 in conference play.
"Our problem was consistency," Broadus Head Coach Brett Emmons told us earlier this week. "We had some good drives where we walked down the field and scored, but then we had some drives where penalties and other mistakes hurt us," he said.
The Hawks were led in scoring by QB Jayce Schroeder's three rushing touchdowns; Jayce also passed for another, with Kail Irish on the receiving end. On the defensive side of the ball, Senior Linebacker Riggin Schaffer had an outstanding day, with 15 solo tackles and 7 assists.
This week the Hawks will work on maintaining that consistency, looking to keep their offense going the right direction through an entire game.
One big hurdle to overcome will be the loss of Jackson Knapp, who is out for the rest of the season with a broken collar bone. Knapp, a Junior, was a versatile and incredibly solid defender, and will be hard to replace.
The Hawks are tied with Park City for third in the conference, with a 1-2 record each. Ekalaka is 3-0 in conference and 3-1 overall, while Forsyth is 3-0 in conference and 3-2 overall. Broadus is 1-4 overall this season.
This week Broadus plays Chinook in a neutral game site at Lavina. Emmons told us Chinook shares a similar record with Broadus. Future games include playing at Park City next week, and St. Labre the following week. We will have stats next week.
