Lady Hawk Volleyball split wins in their matches Thursday and Saturday, handily beating Plevna on Thursday during the Broadus Homecoming, and falling in their first conference loss of the season in a five set match at Circle.
Broadus won over the Plevna Lady Cougars in three sets – 25-10, 25-11, and 25-8. Broadus Coach Monica Smith told us the challenge going into the match was to try and keep the energy high and to play at the level that Broadus is capable of playing.
Monica thought the team did a great job of keeping that energy high against Plevna, but coming out against Circle she commented that Broadus struggled to get their offense and defense going early.
The struggle to get going led to the Circle Lady Wildcats taking the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-22 over Broadus. Broadus finally found their rhythm in the third set, taking it 25-22, repeating that score in the fourth to send the match into a fifth set to 15.
Smith said that some costly errors in the fifth set put Circle ahead, and Broadus wasn't able to recover as they fell 5-15.
Coming off their first conference loss, Smith commented "Going forward we need to learn to stay consistent and disciplined."
Broadus will now take on Busby this Friday in Broadus, and travel to Belle Fourche on Saturday for a tournament, which Smith says serves as great practice for tournament season, as Broadus will play multiple matches in short order.
Additionally, Broadus won the Belle Fourche Tournament last year, so they might have a target on their back as the other teams seek to unseat the reigning champs. Smith and the team will look to continue their reign unabated.
The Lady Hawks are now 6-1 in conference play and 11-2 overall. Circle holds the number one spot in 2C volleyball at 6-0 in conference and 8-1 overall.
