The Broadus Lady Hawk volleyball team continues to win, as they took conference matches at Ekalaka and at home against Forsyth over the weekend. Broadus lost one set in each match, winning in four sets against the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Dogies. Broadus Head Coach Monica Smith told us that the single set losses were in part to Broadus losing focus, but after regrouping the team and being coach to "raise the level of play", they came out firing on all cylinders and won the matches. Sophomore Gracie Gali made her debut as a setter against Ekalaka; Coach Smith noted that Gracie played quite well in her first varsity match.
Forsyth showed great defensive skills, with the scrappy team finding ways to return hits that seemed destined to become scores for Broadus. The high-intensity match saw one volley in the fourth set that went for over minute, with Broadus finally prevailing.
Coach Smith said that the team has been adjusting well to the high intensity play and faster offense exhibited this season. They look to take that intensity to the court against Plevna this Thursday for Homecoming, then travel to Circle this Saturday to take on the 2C's number 2 team, the Lady Wildcats.
Please see the stats from the matches earlier this year in the accompanying photos.
