Legacy is a platform, created through the Powder River County Youth Issues Coalition for exploring an individual's experience with mental wellness, especially trauma. Our hope is that a better understanding of the human experience, creates compassion and empathy for those who struggle and encourages all to seek a path for healing. Our vision is that the stigma and barriers for seeking care/treatment/wellness are broken and the paths for hope and recovery are cleared.
Trauma has been romanticized since the beginning of time. We find scattered pieces of ourselves in the pain of others, letting in memories of our past that were buried deep in our subconscious, until we can gather the courage to face them.
My roots are deep in Montana soil, where cowboys are free and on the run. Beauty bought on a barstool and nurtured in the glaring sun. Taking care of the men was the women's job. A man provided safety because unless you worked for a brothel, you had to be owned by someone. Only white men were free here, where my kin were born.
Horses were stolen and rode to claim a place on this land to call home. Handshakes were business deals. Now, we are slaves to signatures left on paper. Grooming the next generation for their last name. The women bear the emotional pain, while the men physically kill themselves for fame. Children were created to work the land and care for the animals. Barb wire scars and broken hearts from the start.
Mother nature rules all. A battle over hope and fear. Limited resources and generational games, where everyone is addicted to guilt and shame. We've been drinking away this pain since Grandpa claimed this land. Home of the skeleton closets. What do you pray to God? ~Anonymous
