The local artisans of Art and Soul will be having their Art Stampede, the third annual art show and sale, this coming Saturday and Sunday, September 2-3, from 9am – 5pm. The Art Stampede is held in conjunction with the Powder River Quarter Horse Breeders Association annual sale, show and futurity.
The Art Stampede will be held in the multi-purpose room at the north end of the fair barn, adjacent to the indoor arena. Items offered at the sale should include, but certainly not limited to watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings; beaded jewelry; carved and painted gourds; cards; mixed media art; and so much more. Members of the club who intend on participating this year include Sonja Harrington, Lana Kay Smith, Laura Lee Ullrich, Ronda Gatlin, Ann Emmons, Susan Denson Jerke, Karen Woodring, Blondie Woolston, and Jan Stevens.
In addition to the art show and sale, the Art and Soul members have created another collaborative piece of art that will be raffled off on Sunday at 5:00pm. The club accepted nominated photographs by its members for consideration and after selecting the photograph to paint, Lana Kay Smith carefully 'cut' the photograph into a creative mix of blocks.
From there the members were assigned a block to paint. This is where the fun comes in. Each artist created their block in their chosen medium, from watercolor to oil paint and everything in-between.
Once their block had been completed, they turned them into Lana Kay. She then mounted them on a single board with a small space in-between each artist's block. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the show/sale or can be purchased from members of the club. Additionally, you can receive a free ticket for every $20 you spend at the Art Stampede.
The members of Art and Soul are always looking for ways to promote future artists and this year is no exception. Art On The Range is a local youth art contest that will be held in conjunction with the Art Stampede. Local youth are encouraged to enter with their original artwork (no kits), which should center on the "Life on the Prairie" theme – western, wildlife, country living, etc. Entry forms for the contest have been dropped off at the Broadus Elementary School and at the High School. Artwork should be dropped off at the multi-purpose room at the north end of the fair barn from 2:00-4:00pm on Friday September 1st or given to a member of Art and Soul.
Accepted artwork should be on paper or canvas (please, no three-dimensional artwork accepted). The artwork does not need to be framed or matted.
Original artwork will be judged in the following divisions: Kindergarten – 2nd grade; 3rd grade – 5th grade; 6th grade – 8th grade; and 9th grade – 12th grade. Cash prizes will be awarded for the first three placings in each age division. Artwork will need to be picked up at 5:00pm on Sunday, September 3rd at the conclusion of the Art Stampede. Please contact Ronda Gatlin at (406) 436-2549 if you have any questions.
