Those looking for vehicle, equipment, or just about any other sort of tire have a new option in Broadus, as Powder River Tire & Lube, LLC is now open for business.
The tire and oil change service shop is housed in the old J&S Tire building, located at 113 West Hasten Street in Broadus, just off Hwy 212, a half block east of the IGA.
Dan Hartman opened the business earlier this year after a career of ranching, cowboying, and running fencing crews. A few tough years in the cattle business forced a sale of most of his cattle, and Dan wanted an opportunity to be closer to his children, Whitney and Charles, in Broadus.
We spoke with Dan about his shop, as he fixed a customer's flat tire while demonstrating his new Coats 90X tire machine.
Hartman recently returned from treatment at Rimrock Foundation in Billings, after having a bit of a tough time transitioning to life in town, as he described the situation. "I wanted to make things right," he said as he pulled the tire from the rim.
Dan is now back and working full-time and then some, as he noted the shop is often open seven days a week during haying season and during the summer heat, when ranchers need tires fixed to get them back in the field, and truckers need the same to get them back on the road.
Hartman has two young men working for him – Liam Barnes and Kyan Young, actively helping to keep the shop running.
Powder River Tire & Lube, LLC offers a variety of tire options, with a healthy selection in stock. Dan says that most other tire options are available next day through his tire dealer; as we spoke the tire delivery man arrived and dropped off a shiny new set of fresh treads for a customer's vehicle.
The shop offers oil and fluid changes; Dan said the shop is not currently offering other mechanic type work.
An oxygen and acetylene bottle service is also available for area welders.
Powder River Tire & Lube, LLC is currently open 8-6 Monday through Friday for its normal hours, and as Dan mentioned he's often available over the weekend. The shop phone number is 436-2570, and Dan's cell number is 406-853-4773.
