Don’t let the annual Powder River County Fair sneak up on you – it will take place the last week of July; July 25-28th.
The theme “4-H Sews the Seeds of Success” will be exemplified by a variety of exhibits on display. Tuesday will be a day in the arena featuring the 4-H Horse Show beginning at 9 am and lasting throughout the day as exhibitors kick up the dust while demonstrating their abilities.
The annual popular Powder River Working Horse Show will be held on Wednesday, beginning at 9 am. Bring those ranch horses to town to claim “bragging rights”- everyone has at least one horse they are proud of!
Interview judging will take place on Wednesday for 4-H non-livestock exhibits. Open class exhibits can be dropped off Wednesday at the Community Center from 1–6 pm and before 9 am on Thursday. They will be judged on Thursday. All exhibits will be released on Friday afternoon at 5 pm.
“Fun on the Go” will be a highlight for children of all ages at the Fair from Wednesday at 4 pm until Friday afternoon, giving ample opportunity for slipping, sliding, climbing, jumping and totally free enjoyment throughout the Fair.
Thursday will feature entertainment under the tent, including a watermelon eating contest at 10 am; baked pie contest at noon and music by Christine Appleman.
Pork in mass will be at the Fair this year with a RECORD 35 market hogs entered! The swine show begins at 9 am. The afternoon will start at 1 pm with the popular “bum” show (calves, lambs, goats, etc. - every family has at least one bum that is special!). The 4-H sheep, goat, dairy and alpaca show will immediately follow, and the poultry show is scheduled for 3 pm. A cornhole tournament will be underway in the park at 3 pm. Thursday night will feature the crowd-pleasing attraction, the muddy pig wrestling contest. Buy your best “pig” at the Calcutta at 6:30 pm, followed by the stiff competition between three age categories boosting of twenty or more teams at 7 pm.
The 4-H Beef Show begins at 9 am Friday morning. At 11 am, kids ages 4-12 can find Money in the Straw. The annual Fireman’s BBQ will take place at noon along with music by Lucas Capp. The 4-H Round Robin competition is scheduled for 1 pm. An ice cream eating contest is slated for 1 pm under the tent. The afternoon will conclude with the 3 pm awards ceremony and Fairbook Dedication to Annie and Leland (posthumously) Brimmer with the 4-H Livestock Auction scheduled at 4 pm.
