Two Locals Complete EMR Class

By PR County Director of EMS Operations Adam Johnson

Gene Gatlin and Heather Brownfield successfully completed the initial Emergency Medical Responder class earlier this month.

Gatlin and Brownfield sat in attendance of an in-depth nationally structured 48-hour class on the basics of emergency medical pre-hospital care and participated in patient care drills and skill tests.

Prior to completing the course both Gene and Heather had to pass a written test as well as a nationally required practical skills test out. Powder River EMS would like to thank PRC EMS Capt. Cressi Johnson-Paramedic and John Herman-EMT for proctoring the EMR students during their practical test out as well as PRC EMS Lt. Dick Jesse and Commissioner John Olson for being live patients during the skills testing.

Gene and Heather are eligible for taking their National Registry of EMTs written test. Once complete they will have earned national recognition as EMR providers and will be eligible for Montana state licensing.

Powder River EMS is excited about the opportunity for Gene and Heather to grow their EMS skills while focusing on their next endeavors.

Powder River EMS is planning another Emergency Medical Responder class. At present we are reviewing current staffing availability and coverage for the county that will ensure uninterrupted education for those interested in attending a training.
