Senior Happenings

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

Hello from the Senior Center. I hope everyone is enjoying the rain we have been having. It will end at some point so we will take it now. May was full of beautiful rain, and even on the day we took our first trip of the year but it didn’t deter us from going. We went to Sheridan to tour the Kendrick Mansion and also the King Ropes Museum. The Kendrick Mansion was very impressive, some of us liked it better than Moss Mansion in Billings. Just a different feel I guess, well worth stopping in to see if you have some time to kill. King Ropes didn’t disappoint either, so much to see and so much history a person would need to go back again to take it all in. We had lunch at a nice little restaurant on main street.

Cressi is still having chair yoga every Monday and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. We have 6-10 people each day and would love to have more join us. It is very relaxing and great for balance. There is quite a bit of visiting that goes on too.

On June 20th we will be having our Stitching and Lunch at 10 a.m. Come down with any type of handwork and join us visiting, laughing and a little stitching. We then enjoy a wonderful pitch in lunch before playing cards in the afternoon. We would love to have some more people join in.

Ladies Lunch Out will be on the 15th at the Cashway Café. We have decided to add them to our list of places to have lunch and hopefully in the future the Stockman’s will have a schedule that will work for us as well.

Our June trip will be on the 22nd to Pompey’s Pillar and the Bob Watts Murals in Forsyth. Bob paints murals and will be giving us a personal tour of his work, which should be interesting. I know that in last month’s article I stated we would be going to the Range Rider’s Museum in June. I switched it to Pompey’s Pillar, but we will be taking a trip at some point to visit the Range Rider’s Museum and Water Works. Please give Tammy a call at 436-2635, if you would like to go on the June trip.

I also want to let everyone know that we will again be going to Poker Jim Lookout on July 7th for Shakespeare in the Park. If anyone would like to get their name on the list to go, please call Tammy as soon as possible as we have to take our own vehicles and need a good head count. Our July trip will be to Deadwood on the 27th.

Tammy applied for and received a grant from the ever generous, Powder River County Endowment Fund. With these funds we will be renovating the bathroom which will have new paint, curtains and a carsiding half wall. Next, we be a remodel of the food pantry and a paint job to give it a fresh new look. Last, carpet will be laid in the office area. I think it will all look amazing when it is finished, please stop in and take a look.

We appreciate all the donations that we receive here at the center. Last month Theresa Rolfson donated yarn (which was a huge hit), the Capra family donated rolls, Lori Dinstel and Ginger Johnstone donated eggs. Lisa Hart, Sharon Billing and Liz Riter donated food pantry items and Liz also donated a blanket. Mary Smith donated meat and Tammy Van Tine donated a much needed, bookcase. Thank you to each of these people for thinking of the center and donating.

CONGREGATE MEAL:

6/29—Baked Potato Soup, Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Apple Pie

I still have a few food boxes here, with a new shipment coming soon. With that shipment there will be potatoes and apples.

Have a great June!
