Swimming Pool Now Open

By Libby Nisley, Pool Manager

The Swimming Pool opened a bit earlier this year on Saturday, May 27th. I am back at the manager position for the third year in a row, this time joined by Assistant Manager Donovan Sturtz who has 5 years of lifeguarding experience under his belt. For lifeguards, I have third year guard Eli Heacock, and second year guards Zeason Schaffer and Emory Gatlin. New this year are Ezra Gotfredson, Grayson Arithson, Madelyn Zimmer, Alix Heacock, and Sean Oylear.

Day passes are $3. A season pass may be purchased for $100 an individual, or $200 per family. The individual passes are popular with those attending the adult morning swim from 7:00-10:00 each Monday-Friday morning. We have water aerobics from 9:00-10:00, sometimes hosted by Tracy Thomas, and sometimes using an audio workout.

Regular swim sessions go from 11:00am-2:00 pm, then 2:30 pm-5:30 pm, and finally 6:00-8:00 pm every day. One thing to note is that the "Kiddie Pool" will not be open this summer as mechanical issues have plagued it for years. But, there are plenty of lifejackets/water wings for younger swimmers to enjoy our bigger pool. Kids under 7 must be accompanied by an adult/babysitter. But, children between 7-12 can take the deep water test consisting of swimming the length of the pool and treading water for 30 seconds to be able to stay without an adult. Those 13 and older can bring a younger child to supervise, but should be actively watching them.

Swimming lessons will begin on June 13th and go each Tuesday until 5 sessions have been completed, but skipping the 4th of July. The cost is $35/kid. The times for each lesson will be as follows (all are PM):

1A- 5:20-5:40

1B- 5:40-6:00

2 - 6:00-6:30

3- 6:30-7:15

4- 7:15-8:00

5- 8:00-8:45

Please stop by the pool office or call 436-2822 to sign up.

Please watch the Powder River County Swimming Pool Facebook group for up-to-date closure information as storms pass through. Come see us for some fun in the sun this summer!
