Arbor Day To Be Celebrated With Tree Planting

By Margaret Scoles

The Broadus Tree Board will celebrate Arbor Day with Mrs. Swenson’s the first grade class on May 15. The Broadus first grade class has sponsored a celebration at the elementary school for many years. Students will help plant one or more trees. This year, an apple tree will be planted at Powder River Manor. Funds to support the celebration will come from an Arbor Day grant from the DNRC. Broadus is eligible for the grant because it is a Tree City USA. Mayor Chad Gatlin declared Arbor Day in Broadus to be April 28, as it is usually the last Friday in April. However, due to the late season this spring, the event was delayed.
