The Broadus Volleyball Club took two teams to Sheridan last weekend, and both came out with medals.
The 12s team, composed of 5th and 6th graders coached by Kimber Emmons and Amanda Hodge, went undefeated on the day and won the Gold Bracket.
They beat out teams from Gillette, Casper, Upton, and Sheridan areas, beating the Cloud Peak team out in the Championship of their own tournament.
The 16s team took the net the next day with a young squad. The group, coached by Raevyn Slovek, had 1 sophomore, 5 freshmen, 2 eighth graders, and 1 seventh grader, went 10-2 against a group of 12 teams in the 16 and under age group. They split with a Casper team in pool play, beat Guernsey 2-0, and then split with the Black Hills Juniors out of Rapid City. Unfortunately, an administrative error placed them in the silver bracket, rather than the gold. But, they dominated games against the Hot City 16s, Campbell County Volleyball Club, and Wheatland Storm in their bracket to come home with the gold. The teams who took 1st and 2nd in the gold bracket were the two teams we split with in pool play, making it obvious these girls could hang with any of the competition there.
The 12s team will next play in Spearfish this weekend, and the 16s the following weekend in Newcastle. It has been a great season so far - full of competitive matches and great learning experiences.
Thank you to Cynde Trucano and Heads Up Heart Strong as well as our volunteer coaches for making this season possible!
