Temperatures in the 30s and 40s greeted golfers as Broadus hosted a competition, at Rolling Hills Golf Course, April 22. The meet featured teams from Broadus, Absarokee, Baker, Colstrip, Fairview, Wibaux, Richey/ Lambert, and Lame Deer.
A playoff beforehand laid out the teams for Broadus, as the lowest five scores would compete at the varsity event.
The Broadus girls team placed first in the meet, followed by Wibaux. Meanwhile the boys placed 2nd, losing by one point to Absarokee.
Broadus girls took the first three spots in the competition, as Emma Isaacs continued to dominate at home, golfing an 84 and winning 1st place. Gracie Barbero placed second with a 93, and Lauryn Billing a 95 for third.
Cooper Zimmer won the boys competition with an 83, followed by Jaxon Gallagher of Absarokee with an 86.
At a meet in Forsyth last week, Emma Isaacs placed second with an 89, Lauryn Billing 3rd with an 89, Gracie Barbero 5th with a 95, and Cooper Zimmer placed 2nd for the boys with a 77. The Broadus boys and girls golfed the lowest scores amongst the Class C schools, with a 266 team total for the boys, and a 273 for the girls.
This week the team has a JV meet Miles City on the 27th, and a meet in Harlowton on the 29th. On May 4th a JV meet is in Forsyth. Divisional Golf is coming up quickly, on May 8th in Billings; the team will have a practice round in Laurel on May 5th to figure out the course of the private Laurel Golf Club.
Individuals golfing at specific meets is determined by playoff scores, as well as a rotation of players so any one student isn’t gone from school for more than one day a week for the activity.
