Stepping for Food and Trails, A Great Combination
Two charities highlighted in this final week of the Steps for Charity competition are the Powder River Food Bank and Powder River Trails organizations.
The Powder River Food Bank is an important resource for many Powder River County residents. All residents can choose beef, venison, eggs and canned or dry goods at the Food Bank. Hank’s Hikers chose the Powder River Food Bank and its team members are Ashley and Tammy Van Tine, Liz Riter and Amanda Osmer. Businesses and individuals don’t need to be a Steps for Charity team member to give to the Food Bank.
Tammy Jackman, Food Bank Director, reports, “People can bring in donated food items Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm. Soup, crackers, peanut butter, tuna, ramen and canned fruit are items that go very fast in the food pantry. Cash donations are also welcome.
Powder River Trails is a local charity chosen by four Steps for Charity teams. The Powder River Trails support and promote an active built environment and build places and areas for people to walk, bike and enjoy the great outdoors. Memorial benches, “Welcome to Broadus” banners, the Fit Trail and repaving and resurfacing the asphalt trail are some of the many projects created by Powder River Trails in conjunction with Powder River County MSU Extension. New members are always welcome.
Steps for Charity teams who chose Powder River Trails are:
Steps Sisters including Barbie Hammerquist, Lindsey Albin, Dee Katus and Tracy Thomas;
Hit the Trails, who are Karen Amende, Marge Mader, Randy Sullivan and Jeanne Rogge;
Jay Walkers, who are Julie Riley, John Amsden, Elizabeth Reierson and Jackie Slovak; and,
Ward Walkers, who include Katie and Abe Ward and Lydia and Trevor Greene.
Remember track your steps through March 31st, and turn the partial week steps in to the MSU Extension Office by Monday, April 3rd.
