"Air-Ballers" Compete At Cowtown Classic

By Karen Capp

The Broadus 7th grade boys basketball team, AKA the "Airballers" lost their first game to a tough Miles City team, on Saturday morning at the Cowtown Classic in Miles City. We worked very hard in the first half, giving them a run for their money. Brock Gali was 60% from the free-throw line, but in total we had 7 for 27 Free throws. Their 1-3-1 trap defense got us worked up and their 5 three-pointers in the second half took the wind out of our sails. The final score was 27 to 62.

We came out rested Saturday night against our neighbors, Ekalaka. They had a tough point guard and some size to contend against. We came out on top 42 to 25. Our free throws were rough, but we were able to finish at the rim a little better and have some FUN.

We came in early Sunday morning to play a tough Baker team. We kept up pretty well and worked hard, but didn't have an answer for their 3-point shooters. Final score: 39 to 57.

Terry came at us with some well-rounded ball handlers, and some outside shooters. We ended the first half trailing Terry, and were able to scrape back to the lead in the second half. It was a very tough game; we had the size, but they were scrappy. We will have some tough competition from Terry for a long time to come! I am sure they will be back at the junior high season for revenge, as we won 30 to 25.

Overall, these tournaments are tough, but they are also a good reminder to the athletes that off-season time is important, and someone out there is working harder. Thank you to all the parents, friends, coaches, and officials who volunteer their time, money, and energy to our youth sports programs. Without you, none of this would be possible!
