Broadus Gets Radio Service
The radio “bug” is working fast in Broadus, for one wireless instrument is now in working condition and another set has been ordered to be delivered April 1st.
Howard Reeve is the owner of the instrument that is installed in the Broadus Mercantile Company store, the aerials extending from that building to the Powder River County Bank building. It didn’t take long to connect the wires Wednesday evening and with use of ear receivers, music from orchestras and latest news were induced from the air. There was some difficulty at first in completing the installation but with these defects corrected the operators “tuned up to” different broadcasting stations in the United States. A fine orchestra concert came from Calgary, Canada, and from San Francisco came the news that a working girl had fallen heir to an estate of $100,000. Citizens of Broadus yesterday raised nearly $100 by popular subscription to purchase an amplifier or horn so that all may enjoy the radio concerts instead of individuals in donning the ear pieces.
R.T. Blenkner has long wanted a radio receiving set and gratified that desire Wednesday evening by ordering a set that will be here in operation by April 1. This instrument will likewise be for the public entertainment.

Jack Jeakins Memorial Clinic
The new medical facility now under construction in Broadus will presumably be known in the future as the Jack Jeakins Memorial Clinic, according to a report from the county commissioners of Powder River County. The decision was made last week when money for a permanent memorial to Jack Jeakins, was offered to the commissioners in the new facility.
Bill Lehfeldt of Lavina was in Broadus Wednesday and met with the commissioners concerning the memorial. Lehfeldt, a close friend of Jack Jeakins, received the money after Jeakins’ death. He knew of Jeakins’ devotion to the Powder River County area and felt the money should be returned to this area for use as a permanent memorial in a project which was of interest to the former County Extension Agent.
Lehfeldt first contacted Lawrence Capra to learn of current projects in Powder River County. Upon learning of the new clinic under construction, which he knew to be a pet project of Jeakins’, he advised the commissioners of his interests and made the appointment to meet with them.
The County Commissioners agreed with Lehfeldt that the clinic would be a fitting memorial to the late Jack Jeakins since he was a strong supporter of progress and backed everything in the line of betterment of the community. A commemorative plaque will be placed in the new clinic upon completion, the commissioners said, and the Jack Jeakins Memorial Clinic will be dedicated, hopefully, early this summer.
