Hawks Are 4C Conference Champs

The Broadus Boys basketball sealed up their 4C conference championship with wins against Wibaux and Ekalaka over the weekend, making 2023 the 11th time Broadus has won their conference in the team's history, and only the fifth time to do so with an undefeated conference record. The back to back conference championship with last year's win makes this the third time in school history that the team has repeated the feat, with previous back to back championships in 1991 & 92, then again in 94 & 95. This season Broadus finished with a 10-0 conference record.

On Friday against Wibaux, Broadus shot the ball well on two point shots and free throws, though the team continues to struggle from beyond the arc as they only sunk 2 of 17 three pointers. Several shots with a foot on the line that were counted as twos may have skewed this data slightly.

Wibaux stood in contrast from three point land, as they sunk 10 of 22 to stay in the game, with 30 of their 47 total points coming off of three pointers.

Broadus led in the majority of offensive categories other than threes, as they snagged 48 rebound to Wibaux's 17, and 21 assists versus 11.

The Hawks won the game 64 to 47, with three players in double figures: Dillon Gee had 26 points, Marcus Mader 20, and Cooper Zimmer 10.

On Saturday at Ekalaka the Hawks capped off their season with a 69-36 win over the Bulldogs, with Eli Heacock having a big night, scoring 15 points, while Paysen Kuhbacher put up 10. Dillon Gee continued to dominate under the hoop with 20 points, as the Hawks shot 62% overall in the win, with 52 points in the paint.

The Hawks now enter the 4C District Tourney as the #1 seed, with a bye in the first round. Their first game will come on Friday at 4:30 in Miles City in a nice scheduling arrangement that places their game just before the first Broadus Lady Hawks game at 6. The Hawks will play the winner of #4 seeded Wibaux against #5 seeded Plevna. Wibaux beat Plevna last Saturday by a score of 64-59.
