Broadus Girls Beat St. Labre, Fall To Wibaux, Ekalaka

The Broadus girls varsity cruised to an easy 60-23 win over St. Labre last Tuesday. In speaking with Broadus Coach Ashley Emmons on Monday, she said that less challenging games are nice from time to time in order to try out plays and player combinations against another team, which gives the coaches and players the ability to adjust in situations that might not mean a loss if things don't go as planned.

On Friday Broadus traveled to Wibaux, and early on found themselves in foul trouble. A different set of referees than the team is used to made for a stricter game, and Broadus found themselves down four starters with four fouls apiece in the third quarter, and four starters fouling out later in the game. The Broadus bench players did a nice job stepping in to their roles, but it was too little, too late as Wibaux won 49-45.

"We knew going in that we'd have to play carefully when it came to fouling, and we didn't do it, so that's on us," Emmons said. "That being said, our non-starters stepped in and played well in the game."

On Saturday in Broadus, the Lady Hawks did what they've done well all season and built early momentum, but once again had some foul troubles as two of their team leaders – Zeason Schaffer and Kendal Stanley, found themselves on the bench.

"We had to adjust to playing without their presence," Emmons noted.

Ekalaka would go on to defeat Broadus 61-39, as the Lady Bulldogs improve to 5-0 in the conference and takeover first place. Broadus sits at 4-2, holding the tiebreaker over Jordan, also at 4-2.

Upcoming games include St. Labre this week, and Plevna on Saturday, games which should be winable for the Lady Hawks, as Plevna sits at 0-4 in conference play.
