Jack McLees is Commercial Club President

Jack McLees, Broadus businessman, was elected president of the Powder River Commercial Club at the annual meeting of the organization held in the Community Church basement Monday evening. Other officers elected include Bob McCurdy, vice-president, D.A. Heidel, secretary, E.E. Barker, treasurer, Tom Williams and Chas. L. Scofield, members of the executive board.

Thirty members were present at this meeting which followed a 6:30 banquet served by members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. President O.G. Christianson presided at the business meeting.

The matter of the marking of the Moorhead Road just west of Broadus was brought up by Chas. L. Scofield. The club agreed that the road should be marked where it turns off Highway 212 and the highway department will be requested to make the proper marking sign.

The state fish and game commission is interested in securing the services of an ex-serviceman to be deputy game warden with headquarters at Broadus, A.W. Heidel reported. With the large numbers of transient workers who will be employed during the construction of the Moorhead Dam it is felt that the game should have more protection. President Christianson said that the matter would be taken up at a VFW meeting to secure a prospective deputy game warden.

President O.G. Christianson appointed Joe Chiesa, H.R. Stration, D.A. Heidel, Steve A. Holt, Jr., and Chas. L. Scofield as members of the nominating committee. They brought in their report which was the same as the officers elected except that F.W. Trautman was named as secretary. Mr. Trautman refused to serve again and D.A. Heidel was nominated from the floor. The officers were elected unanimously.

Following the meeting Father Patrick Berther projected some still color pictures on a screen which included photos of practically every business place in Broadus together with the proprietors and employees and scenes in Broadus. The members enjoyed the pictures.
